Once you start identifying fish, you’ll gain a new appreciation for the ocean and scuba diving. You’ll also connect with fellow divers and fill up your logbook with memories. You'll love to learn about the different species in such a rich environment of biodiversity which the MPA of Ustica Island is

  • What was that Fish?! If you want to be the scuba diver with the answers, instead of the one asking the questions, then take the Fish Identification Specialty Course
  • Enjoy your dives even more when you recognize the creatures that you see and can identify the main fish families and their characteristics.
  • Once you learn to recognize what types of fish you see, you'll find it easier to reference the exact species after a scuba dive.

Requirements

To enroll the  Fish Identification Dive Experience Program or PADI AWARE Fish Identification Course you need to: 

  • be an Open Water Diver
  • minimum age: 10
  • have good buoyancy skills

The Fish Identification Dive Experience or PADI AWARE Fish Identification Course  is part of the MedLife Experience Program we offer in Ustica. We believe to be in no better place as the  Marine Protected Area of Ustica, with its rich biodiversity,  island to become a Fish Identifier.

 The PADI AWARE Fish Identification Course gives you the opportunity to explore new environments and enjoy scuba diving more than ever, while working with your instructor to build your scuba skills and gain more confidence, and get certified as a Specialty Diver.

During two scuba dives of the  PADI AWARE Fish identification Course you’ll learn:

  • How to identify characteristics of local fish families and species.
  • Fish survey techniques and strategies.
  • About Project AWARE activities that can help protect aquatic life
