Corals do not only live in tropical seas. Under the name coral, we find different species, some of which live in the Mediterranean Come and discover In Ustica the hard corals, which include reef-building corals, and soft corals, which do not have a skeleton.
- This course will help you appreciate the complexity of coral reef habitats, better identify coral species, and teach you about ways to help protect and conserve these incredibly important marine organisms.
- Discover how coral reefs function and why they are so important, why many reefs are in serious trouble and what individuals can do to prevent further decline.
- Use Your Scuba Skills to Help Coral Reefs: get the knowledge base for proper interaction while touring a reef.

The Coral Reef Conservation program is part of the MedLife Experience Program and the MedCoral Guardians Project we offer in Ustica. We believe to be in no better place as the Marine Protected Area of Ustica, with its rich biodiversity, where to find the different coral colonies of the Mediterranean.
The PADI AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Course gives you the opportunity to explore new environments and enjoy scuba diving more than ever, while working with your instructor to build your scuba skills and gain more confidence, and get certified as a Specialty Diver.
Through classroom discussions, you learn:
- How coral reefs function and the complex nature of life on a reef.
- Why coral reefs are so important.
- Why many coral reefs are in serious trouble.
- What you can do to prevent further decline.
- How the PADI AWARE Foundation unites divers and water enthusiasts to make a difference.
During two Coral Top Dives you will learn how to recognise and identify the coral colonies related to the depth and type of substrate. The dives will be adapted to your certification level.
